Stone Town, Zanzibar

Stone Town is the historic heart of Zanzibar City, a UNESCO World Heritage site that blends African, Arab, Indian, and European influences. Characterized by a labyrinth of narrow alleys, bustling bazaars, and beautiful coral stone buildings, it is famous for its ornately carved wooden doors. Key sites include the House of Wonders, the Old Fort, the Palace Museum, and the moving Slave Market Memorial. At night, Forodhani Gardens transforms into an open-air street food market.

Stone Town is easy to get lost in due to its maze-like layout; downloading an offline map (like Google Maps or Maps.me) is highly recommended. Dress modestly when visiting (shoulders and knees covered for both men and women). Pickpocketing can occur in crowded market areas, so keep valuables secure.
