Tarangire National Park

Tanzania

About Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is characterized by its iconic, massive baobab trees that dot the undulating landscape, looking like giant upside-down roots reaching for the sky. The park is bisected by the Tarangire River, which becomes the sole source of water for miles during the dry season. This draws an incredible migration of elephants, wildebeest, zebras, buffaloes, and gazelles from the surrounding Masai Steppe. Tarangire is famous for hosting some of the largest elephant herds in Africa, with groups of up to 300 elephants often seen congregating along the riverbeds. It is also a birdwatcher's paradise, boasting over 550 bird species, and is home to tree-climbing pythons, lions, and dry-country antelopes like the fringe-eared oryx and long-necked gerenuk.
